How have NEC 2023 load calculations changed for healthcare and marinas?
Overview
New parts are periodically added to articles contained within the NEC. These additional parts can add clarification, add more organizational value to the layout, add rules that keep up with the changing electrical field, and even introduce new calculations. When these parts are updated, it is important that the scope of the affected article is updated to reflect these changes. This is the case for Section 220.1 which covers the scope of the Branch-Circuit, Feeder, and Service Load Calculations article. The scope now includes two new parts: Part VI (health care facilities), and Part VII (marinas, boatyards, floating buildings, and commercial and noncommercial docking facilities)
Applying the 2023 Code
Article 220 covers Branch-Circuit, Feeder, and Service Load Calculations. While this section has always included the general calculations required for locations such as healthcare facilities, and marinas/boatyards/floating docs/commercial and noncommercial docking facilities, it has never specifically addressed them, nor has it allowed for any service demand factors. The 2023 NEC now address them by adding Section VI, which cover health care facilities, and part VII, which covers the aquatic-related areas listed previously. Part VI adds two additional service factor tables, and part VII adds a single new service factor table. Due to the addition of these new parts, the scope of article 220 has changed. Section 220.1 now includes these new parts, and includes an updated Informational Note Figure 220.1 to reflect these changes. This change will help those navigating the code book understand the updated layout of Article 220.

This article provides requirements for calculating branch-circuit, feeder, and service loads. Part I provides general requirements for calculation methods. Part II provides calculation methods for branch-circuit loads. Parts III and IV provide calculation methods for feeder and service loads. Part V provides calculation methods for farm loads.
2023 NEC
In the 2023 NEC Section 215.18 read as follows (without informational notes):
