North Dakota Electrician Continuing Education Requirements: Every North Dakota electrician license renews annually, and the North Dakota State Electrical Board (NDSEB) must have 8 hours of board-approved continuing education on file before a license can be renewed. At least 4 of the 8 hours must be code hours on the currently adopted edition of the National Electrical Code (NEC). Online courses are accepted when both the course and the provider are approved by the board.

Who Needs to Complete CE?

The following North Dakota license types must have 8 hours of CE on file for annual renewal:

Master Electrician
Journeyman Electrician
Class B Electrician
Power Limited Electrician

Important Notes

  • Journeyman licenses expire every year on March 31. Master, Class B and Power Limited licenses expire every year on April 30.
  • Renewals open on January 1 each year. Annual renewal fees: Master and Power Limited $50, Class B $40, Journeyman $25. An expired license requires a reinstatement fee equal to the annual fee.
  • A minimum of 4 of the 8 hours must be code hours on the currently adopted NEC.
  • The board only accepts proof of completion from the course provider. The provider must submit the attendance roster within 15 days of completion.
  • Credit is not given for taking the same continuing education class more than once in a code cycle.
  • Continuing education credits can be deposited with the board for up to two license renewal periods.
