Pennsylvania UCC Code Official Continuing Education Requirements: UCC certifications issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry (DLI) are valid for three (3) years. A certified code official must complete 15 credit hours of continuing education per certification category to be re-certified.

For officials holding multiple certification categories, the requirement is 15 credit hours per category, capped at 45 hours total. At least one third of your hours must be in approved courses relating to one or more of your certification categories; the remaining two thirds must relate to the building trades.

  • If you renew after your expiration date but within 1 year of it, your new expiration date is 3 years from the date of issuance. A certification cannot be renewed once it has been expired for more than 1 year.
  • Each time you receive certification in a new category, the expiration date for all your certifications moves to 3 years from the new category’s issuance date.
