CE Requirement – Alabama
Alabama Electrician Continuing Education Requirements: All licensed Alabama electrical contractors and provisional electrical contractors must complete 14 hours of Board-approved continuing education every two-year renewal cycle. At least seven (7) of these hours must cover the National Electrical Code (NEC) or NFPA 70, while the remaining hours may be on other approved industry topics.
Quick Steps to Renew Your Alabama Electrician License
Complete a 14-hour state-approved CE course within your two-year license term.
Your course provider will report your completion to the Alabama Electrical Contractors Board electronically.
Receive a certificate of completion from your provider for your personal records.
Complete the renewal application and pay the required fee online via the Board’s website before your license expires.

The following Alabama Electrician license types require 14 hours of CE for renewal every two years:
Note: Licensed Journeyman Electricians are not currently required to complete continuing education for renewal.
Important Notes
- Your specific license expiration date varies and occurs every two years on either March 30th, June 30th, September 30th, or December 30th.
- The Board sends renewal notices 30 days prior to the license expiration date.
- All 14 hours of CE must be completed with a provider approved by the Alabama Electrical Contractors Board.
- At least 7 of the 14 hours must be on the National Electrical Code (NEC)/NFPA.
- You can carry forward a maximum of 6 excess CE hours to the next renewal period.
- CE completion should be reported to the Board by your provider at least 60 days before license expiration to avoid potential late fees.
