CE Requirement – Colorado
Colorado Electrician Continuing Education Requirements: All Colorado-licensed Residential Wireman, Journeyman, and Master Electricians must complete 24 hours of Continuing Education (CE) during each three-year license period before they may renew their license. This requirement does not apply to the first renewal of a license that was obtained by passing an examination during that license cycle.
Quick Steps to Renew Your Colorado Electrician License
Complete a 24-hour CE course from a provider that has attested with the State Electrical Board within your three-year license term.
Receive a certificate of completion from your course provider for your personal records.
Keep your completion certificate for seven years in case you are selected for an audit by the Board.
Complete the renewal application and pay the fee online via the Colorado DORA website when the renewal window opens.

Important Notes
- Licenses expire every three years on September 30th of the renewal year (e.g., 2023, 2026).
- You can renew up to six weeks before the license expiration date.
- All 24 hours must be from core competencies, including a mandatory minimum of 4 hours on National Electrical Code (NEC) Changes.
- A maximum of 4 hours will be credited for safety courses related to the electrical industry.
- Other approved course topics include Grounding and Bonding, Wiring Methods, and Theory and Calculations.
- The Board does not receive completion records from providers; you are responsible for keeping your certificates as proof of completion.
- The Board conducts random audits of compliance after each renewal period.
