Covers the 2026 National Electrical Code changes to wiring methods and equipment, beginning with the restructured Article 300 rules for securing and supporting, conductor protection, and the 360-degree bend limit, and the parallel provisions in Article 305 for systems over 1000 V AC and 1500 V DC. Participants examine the relocated receptacle and switch requirements across Article 406, including tamper-resistant receptacles and switch faceplates, the reconditioned equipment and busbar rules in Article 408, SCCR marking for industrial control panels, and the revised listing, disconnect, and labeling requirements for electric vehicle supply equipment under Article 625.
The course then addresses special conditions: bonding, gas detection, and the tabulated wiring methods for hazardous locations under Articles 500 and 501, the relocated area classification rules for commercial garages, bulk storage plants, and spray areas, the restructured temporary installation requirements in Article 590, and the listing, bonding, and GFCI changes for pools and spas in Article 680. The final section covers the North Dakota Wiring Standards, including the 5% voltage-drop limit, minimum 100-ampere services, egress and emergency lighting, the ND AFCI and GFCI exceptions, and hazardous locations in oilfields and grain elevators.
Learning objectives
- Identify the relocated securing, supporting, and conductor protection requirements in Articles 300 and 305, including the 360-degree bend limit.
- Locate the receptacle, switch, and faceplate requirements moved within Article 406, and the reconditioned equipment and busbar rules in Article 408.
- Apply the 2026 listing, disconnect, and labeling requirements for electric vehicle supply equipment under Article 625 and for pool and spa equipment under Article 680.
- Determine area classification and bonding requirements for hazardous locations under Articles 500 through 516, and apply the North Dakota Wiring Standards to voltage drop, service sizing, and egress lighting.
