CE Requirement – Utah Electricians
Utah Electrician Continuing Education Requirements: All Utah-licensed Electricians must complete 16 hours of Continuing Education (CE) during each two-year license period before they may renew their license. Of these hours, 12 must be “core” education covering the National Electrical Code (NEC), and the remaining 4 hours may be either “core” or “professional” industry-related topics.
Quick Steps to Renew Your Utah Electrician License
Complete a 16-hour state-approved CE course within your two-year license term.
Your course provider will report your completion hours to the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing (DOPL).
You can verify that your completed hours have been posted on the DOPL’s online CE registry.
Complete the renewal application and pay the fee online via the DOPL website before the expiration date.
Who Needs to Complete CE?
The following Utah Electrician license types require 16 hours of CE for renewal:

Important Notes
- Licenses expire on November 30th of even-numbered years.
- DOPL sends a renewal notice at least 60 days before expiration.
- All 16 hours of CE must be completed with a state-approved provider.
- Of the 16 total hours, 12 must be “Core” hours, which consist of 8 hours on the National Electrical Code (NEC) and 4 hours on NFPA 70E (Electrical Safety).
- The remaining 4 hours can be “Core” or “Professional” topics such as OSHA, motor controls, or tool usage.
- You can verify your reported CE hours online through the state’s public CE lookup system.
