CE Requirement – South Dakota
South Dakota Electrician Continuing Education Requirements: All South Dakota-licensed Electricians must complete 16 hours of Continuing Education (CE) during each two-year license period to be eligible for license renewal. At least eight of the required hours must cover the National Electrical Code (NEC), and a maximum of eight hours can be completed through pre-approved online or correspondence courses.
Quick Steps to Renew Your South Dakota Electrician License
Complete your 16-hour state-approved CE course within your two-year license term before the June 30th deadline.
Receive a certificate of completion from your course provider and retain it for your records.
Log in to the SD Licensee Portal, enter your completed CE course details, and upload proof of completion.
Complete the online renewal application and pay the required fee via the Licensee Portal before the expiration date.

- Licenses expire on June 30th of even-numbered years (e.g., 2026, 2028).
- The renewal process must be completed by the expiration date to avoid any lapse in licensure.
