Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
It depends on the license type. The State of Alabama does not have a statewide license or CE requirement for journeyman or master electricians; licensing is handled at the local city/county level, which may have its own requirements. However, Electrical Contractors licensed by the Alabama Board of Electrical Contractors (AECB) are required to complete CE for renewal.
Licensed Electrical Contractors must complete 14 hours of approved continuing education during each two-year renewal period. At least 7 of those 14 hours must be on the National Electrical Code (NEC).
Your 14 hours of CE must be completed within your two-year renewal cycle. An Alabama Electrical Contractor license expires biennially on the last day of the licensee's birth month. You must complete the CE requirements before this expiration date to be eligible for renewal.
The Alabama Board of Electrical Contractors (AECB) provides a list of approved continuing education providers and courses on its official website. It is the contractor's responsibility to verify that a course is approved by the board before taking it.
No. Hours completed in excess of the required 14 hours during one renewal period cannot be carried over to the next two-year renewal period. You must complete a new set of 14 hours for each cycle.
